'Great Art Disasters and Curiosities - Unintended Outcomes and Peculiar Decisions in The World of Art'
Aengus Dewar, Artist, Author and Lecturer
'This talk will be a lighthearted journey through the world of art, exploring how even the best of artists at the height of their powers are prone to bizarre lapses of judgement and spectacular mistakes.
It sets out to contradict the common assumption that the greatest practitioners of the visual arts were infallible geniuses when they took up their brushes, charcoals and chisels. There is entertaining evidence to the contrary.
The talk will also look at a number of enthusiastic art lovers, restorers, experts, and bystanders who have blundered in their attempts to foster or preserve particular artworks, even if sometimes unexpected benefits arise from their mistakes'
Friday 22nd July from 7.30pm at the WAA.
